The McLaren 12C Claims Double 'Car of The Year' award!
The 12C and recently-launched 12C Spider have received praise from all four corners of the globe as ‘no compromise’ high performance sports cars. Now, to add to these glowing comments, both models have taken the spoils at recent award ceremonies, with the title of ‘Car of the Year’ being bestowed on each.
As the first full year of sales in the Middle East nears an end, the groundbreaking 12C has been named ‘Best Supercar’, and overall ‘Car of the Year’ at the prestigious Middle East Motor Awards 2012. The 12C was rated ahead of almost 50 car models, including some of the world’s top supercars, by a jury panel comprising of the region’s top automotive experts.
Developed alongside its coupe sibling at the ‘Top Gear’ test track at Dunsfold Aerodrome, Surrey, the innovative 12C Spider was also honoured at the BBC Top Gear Magazine Awards 2012. And, only weeks after its launch, it has done it in some style, claiming two titles. The latest addition to the McLaren Automotive range has been named ‘Cabrio of the Year’ and, after spending two days with the car on Spanish roads, Top Gear presenter James May has also awarded it with his ultimate seal of approval, naming it his personal ‘Car of the Year’.
Each award is judged by a group of expert and extremely opinionated motoring journalists - including the presenters of Top Gear television – and on awarding the 12C Spider with the ‘Car of the Year’ honours James May commented: 'I’ve never been more pleased to find myself in a car without a roof. Long enough for me to wonder if the experience could have been improved by a different car. It couldn’t, to be honest. The McLaren 12C, in all its forms, is tremendous.'
